Tutorial Day

SiC Technologies: Leveraging Material Capabilities to Fabricate the Devices of Today and the Future

The Tutorial Day of the 19th International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ICSCRM) will take place on Sunday, September 11, 2022 in Davos and is the first event of ICSCRM2022.

The Tutorial Day is a full-day event geared primarily towards PhD students and early career researchers, but the Tutorials are also suitable for participants who are new to the field of silicon carbide technologies and semiconductor professionals who want to become more familiar with various material and device concepts.

The main objective of the tutorial day is to introduce the participants to some of the important topics that will be discussed throughout the main conference. By participating in the Tutorial Day, you should be well equipped for following the wide selection of talks for the rest of the week. Furthermore, we wish to bridge the gap between the materials science and device related communities, to facilitate fruitful discussion and collaboration.

The lectures are given by six invited speakers who are all well recognized in their respective fields.

Prof. Dr. Noboru Ohtani, Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan – Introduction to SiC material and growth

Dr. Pete Losee, Qorvo, USA – Introduction to SiC power devices

Prof. Dr. Marina Radulaski, UC Davis, USA – Silicon Carbide Defects as the Backbone of Quantum Technology

Prof. Dr. Tibor Grasser, TU Vienna, Austria – Charge Trapping and Reliability Issues in SiC Devices

Prof. Dr. Nando Kaminski, University of Bremen, Germany – From standard packages equipped with SiC chips towards true SiC packages

Dr. Iulian Nistor, mqSemi AG, Switzerland – From prototype to market – innovating with commercial purpose

The topics covered in the six tutorials are related to the material and processing, device fundamentals and modeling, packaging and quantum technology in SiC. Each tutorial will provide the audience with a general introduction to the subject matter and will be suitable for young researchers of different backgrounds.

The Tutorial Day will commence with three introductory talks, on SiC materials, devices and quantum technology, and continue with three more specific tutorials after lunch that build on the knowledge from the three first ones.
